The Products of Kha Bangkok Food
The second largest economy in ASEAN
Thailand
Thailand is the second largest economy in ASEAN and a major global tourist destination. This dynamic, consumer-oriented market with rising disposable income and a huge visitor market of around 35 million, is increasing its demand for imported food and wine, offering many opportunities for Italian exporters
The Thai consumer spends 7% more on food every year, has great faith in imported products and is exceptionally open to innovation in taste and packaging. Critically, the Thai consumer is more accessible than ever through retail and HoReCa channels.
Italian food has seen an explosion in popularity in Thailand in recent years, with now more than 500 Italian restaurants in Bangkok and more than 1,500 in all country.
Thailand’s demand for premium quality imported food and wine is growing in line with the growth of the tourism sector and the growth of upper-middle incomes. Imported foods and drinks generally sell very well in Bangkok and tourist areas such as Phuket, Hua Hin, Krabi, Samui and Chiang Mai.
Led by hypermarkets and convenience stores, Thailand is the second most dynamic retail market in Asia after China, due to a high level of foreign and domestic investment in the retail sector. 70 percent of all food and beverage spending occurs in some form of retail outlet, with the most modern stores located in densely populated area and the most affluent areas.
Thailand’s large Premium Hotel Restaurant Café (HoReCa) foodservice sector comprises approximately 150,000 outlets, 530,000 restaurants and over 9,000 hotels and resorts. Hotels, resorts, tourist restaurants and corporate food services rely heavily on imported food. The Thai HoReCa sector, on average, imports 30% of the food sold locally. Growth in the tourism sector has led to a growing demand for Western food and wine.
All combined with the fact that exporting to Thailand is relatively straightforward compared to the complex processes in other Asian markets such as China.
